Partnering with Builders for Superior Solutions
Comprehensive and Reliable Multi-Family Radon Mitigation Solutions
Advanced Radon Technologies excels in providing radon mitigation services designed explicitly for multi-family new construction projects. Our extensive experience in the field, combined with cutting-edge techniques, ensures that your properties remain safe and radon-free for years to come.
Our approach is centered around two main radon mitigation techniques that are renowned for their effectiveness:
Sub-Slab Depressurization (SSD): This method involves installing a network of perforated pipes beneath the concrete foundation slab. These pipes create a vacuum that actively extracts radon gas from the soil and safely discharges it above the roofline, completely bypassing the indoor environment.
Sub-Membrane Depressurization (SMD): We employ SMD systems for areas where a foundation slab is absent, such as crawl spaces.
Overview of Washington’s Appendix F: Radon Control Methods
Washington’s Appendix F of the state building code mandates radon control measures for new construction in areas identified as having high radon potential. This section is a part of the Washington State Residential Code, specifically designed to reduce indoor radon levels to maintain safe living conditions for homeowners.
Appendix F requires builders in high-risk counties, such as Clark, Spokane, and Okanogan, to implement radon-resistant construction techniques. These measures typically include the installation of sub-slab depressurization systems, vapor barriers beneath foundation slabs, and proper sealing of foundation joints and utility penetrations. Additionally, unvented crawl spaces are prohibited in these high-radon areas unless specific ventilation systems are used to mitigate radon accumulation.
For builders outside high-radon zones, the code provides guidelines for when and how radon control measures should be voluntarily integrated, especially in cases involving unvented crawl spaces. The requirements outlined in Appendix F aim to align with EPA recommendations and state data to effectively reduce radon exposure risks.
Builders should also familiarize themselves with the NRPP’s Radon Testing standards. Common issues involve conducting radon testing when closed housing conditions are not yet ready. We recommend conducting radon testing at the stage in the building process just before it is move-in ready in order to properly test for radon and receive the occupancy license.
These codes ensure that new homes are built to minimize radon risks and maintain indoor air quality standards, ultimately protecting residents and enhancing long-term health outcomes.

Interior Vertical Vent Stack Installation: A radon vent stack is set up within a new multi-family building’s framework, rising through the interior to safely vent radon above the roof post-construction, adhering to radon-resistant standards.
Sub-Slab Piping System: The image illustrates sub-slab depressurization piping laid under the foundation during early construction, linking to a radon vent stack for effective radon removal, showcasing a proactive radon-resistant design.
Framed Radon Vent System: A radon vent integrated into the building’s framework features a vertical pipe connecting to a roof outlet, ensuring safe radon venting in line with radon-resistant construction practices.
